What Are The Right Wing Loonies Protesting With Their “Tea Bagging” Protests?

Consider this: President Obama plans on signing into the law the largest middle class tax cut in US history. He also wants to raise taxes on the richest 5% of Americans (those making more than a quarter million dollars a year) to the rate they were at in the 1990s under President Clinton (and if you recall rich folks did quite well during the 1990s.)

So what exactly are these “tea bagging” right wingers protesting? Tax cuts for the middle class? A small tax hike for the richest Americans who have been making a killing during the last 8 years while the rest of Americans have been losing wealth?

Considering that most of those protesting are actually having their taxes cut by President Obama it’s truly hard to understand what their angle is. If they are so against taxes in general, why were they not having these protests during President Bush’s Presidency when their tax rates were higher?

Is it really because they think rich folks are just hurting too much in today’s economy? Who is manipulating these fools into protesting against their own best interest?

It’s obvious that they are being manipulated by the GOP political machine (and that includes the comedy channel known as “Fox News”) in a desperate attempt to lower the popularity of President Obama (who is currently still sitting at 62% approval despite all of the senseless garbage being tossed his way by the Bush/Cheney apologists.)

What’s really crazy is that these idiots somehow think they represent the majority of Americans when in reality they are part of a shrinking group that still think that the policies of the last 8 years under George W. Bush were actually a good idea.

Meanwhile President Obama is fighting for a middle class tax cut.

  1. I read your blog, as well as a number of other financial pages, and I’m a bit surprised at your stance on the Tea Parties. Here’s a link you might find interesting, from another financial blog I read:

I think it does a fair job of explaining what the protests are about.

  2. Nah. Nothing fair about it. This is obviously politically motivated. You do realize that the tax rates that these people are protesting are the tax rates of the Bush administration right? Obama’s so called “taxing philosophy” hasn’t been put into place yet. And again, Obama is actually lowering taxes for over 90% of Americans (and I’d be willing to bet for almost all of the people taking part in these protests.) In essence they are protesting that they are getting lower taxes because the extremely wealthy (and consider that the 400 richest Americans DOUBLED their wealth during the 8 years of the Bush admin while the rest of America’s wealth declined considerably) will be taxed at a slightly higher rate (still lower than during the Reagan administration.)

  3. As far as the spending/bailouts are concerned - The Bush administration got the bailouts going. Where were these protests then? Where were the protests about spending when Bush was taking Clinton’s surplus and turning it into the largest deficits in history?

Pretending like this isn’t just a right wing manipulation is absolute bull. It’s obvious what this is.

I also find it absolutely hilariously ridiculous that Fox News and the rest of the GOP are talking about the government not “listening to the people” when Obama has an approval rating over 60% yet they were saying people who protested against Bush (when his approval rating was under 30%) were “anti-Americans.” The contradiction is obvious.

  4. The protest isn’t only about the taxes. It’s mainly about out of control spending and irresponsible use of taxpayer money. From TaxDayCoalition.com:

    “What are you protesting?

As our national debt continues to skyrocket to unprecedented levels, the administration has disregarded the growing cry for a return to fiscal responsibility and limited government.

Despite public outcry, the government uses your tax dollars to prop up failing enterprises, erode your fundamental liberties, and maintain an overseas presence in over 140 countries - just to name a few of its staggering excesses.

This April 15th 2009 we will speak out against all the reckless and irresponsible policies implemented with our tax dollars, casting us deeper into the economic abyss.”

  5. Ah… just getting back to this. What nonsense Joe. What absolute nonsense. These people were nowhere to be found when Bush was turning Clinton’s budget surplus into a deficit by cutting taxes for the super rich.

The spending Obama did with the stimulus was necessary. It has already saved or created over 1.5 million jobs.

He was put in this situation by the previous administration, blaming him for it now is so transparent as to be patently ridiculous.

Teabaggers are fools. Morons. Ignorant morons and they deserve no respect. Teabaggers are what’s wrong with this country. Stupidity and ignorance are no longer in fashion.
