How Much Lower Can The Stock Market Go?
By admin on Mar 5, 2009 in politics, stock trading
I wish I could say that we are now at a “bottom” but I don’t think we can say that with any real confidence. There’s a chance the stock market will continue to go down for quite some time.
And I wouldn’t trust the folks at CNBC either.
The fact is, the economy will probably keep getting worse before it gets better. The downward spiral that we now know as The Bush Recession may very well turn into The Bush Depression. It cannot be overstated how much harm the Bush administration has done to this country. It will most likely take years of sober minded leadership and good ideas from President Obama to turn this thing around. I have all the confidence in the world in President Obama, but it will take time. We must have patience.

Here’s the real deal.
First of all I’m an active trader and I’m buying right now (SPY).
Second - I trade - I DO NOT INVEST IN THE STOCK MARKET. Investing has been destroyed by de-regulation and the stock market is now a rigged game, really it’s just gambling, always has been, actually. Look at these retirerees who invested in GM in the 50’s and are now broke.
That’s why our grandfathers set up SOCIAL SECURITY!
It GUARANTEES you a retirement income!
If I could put all of my IRA’s and 401K’s into social security, I would.
THAT’s the direction we need to go, not “fixing” a corrupt system which is and always has been for the rich and by the rich to steal money from the rest of us.

Graham, interesting comments and I think I probably agree with you. Personally I’m more of a “trader” than an “investor” myself, so I dig where you’re coming from on that.
And I think you may have a very good point about social security. I can only imagine how popular the Republican idea of putting social security in the stock market is right now…

BTW: It looks like this was the bottom (or very close to it…) the bottom came just 4 days after I posted this (on March 9th) it’s been up 90% since then. Amazing. A lot of smart people have made a lot of big money since then.
